The part to be a starting point of the design of 10 eyevan is this βtitanium Torx screw.
The design of 10 eyevan started from a point we want to make this screw.
Torx screw, having high power transmission and beautiful hexagon shaped screw-head occurring less cam-out phenomenon, is called the best of screws. Furthermore, applying a process called OS lock to prevent from loosing , and adopting theβtitanium material makes the part strong enough to endure to use at a hinge.
We asked Mr. Maruyama, who has been developing the rim, the important part to hold a lens, for about 40 years, for the titanium wire drawing, and produced at a manufacturer specialized in screws. The development of this completely new screw required more than 3 years to clear various issues including the durability of a mold.
Screws, completed by combining the know-how of the screw craftsman with the technology using the latest machine the factory has, are the ones materialized the concept of the brand placing equal value in the function and in the beauty.

Since the 10 eyevan’s original β-titanium Torx screw keeps the high torque pressure, and it also has a function of anti-looseness via OS lock system, the endpiece can be made extremely thin to the utmost limit.

This original closing block hinge in titanium is worked by this mechanical benefit for maximum level. While the thinnest vertical measurement is 1.7mm, the affinity with 10 eyevan titanium rim in design is increased by making the surface rounded.
The whole design is so smooth on surface to be united as one structure, being co-existed with each part working in harmony with others in a natural flow without patching each other while each part has a structure and material to play a role demanded for the part at a maximum

The rim is one of the most important parts of frame to hold a lens, and we asked Mr. Maruyama, who is a well-known craftsman developing a rim wire over 40 years, to make the rim for us.
There are “10” patterns on the backside of the unique shaped titanium rim with half-rounded front and straight backside.

Making full use of know-how to maximize the advantage of the material in producing the titanium rim for wire drawing process and eyewire process, Mr. Maruyama created the original machine for manufacturing the rim. His inquisitive mind onto the material called titanium is concentrated in this part. The rim wire, whose metallic structure is uniform and is beautifully finished because of production process paid careful attention, has an advantage of smooth surface, but also has a merit to realize the exact lens shape as shown on the drawing.

The demo lens put inside of frame is usually used an acrylic lens, but 10 eyevan frame uses a high quality plastic lens known as CR39 which is also used for prescription lens. This custom made CR39 lens with UV cut and anti-reflection coating has a very unique curve, 2 base curve which also plays an important role to make the design well balanced like a straight line and curved line as well as flatness and solidity of the whole frame.
Every 10 eyevan frame has an engraved logo “10” on a left side lens, and it is done by laser.

The shell shaped hinge attached to the shell pad has an original construction for attaching and it took more than two years from concept to commercialization of product. This hinge is easy to exchange and attach, yet tight when putting on by using the original tool developed for this hinge, which has a really ideal construction for attaching. The way of attaching a pad directly to a frame body is the world 1st construction which has never been existed in the eyewear history. We obtained the patent (patent no.6039851) in 2016. We have named Shell-Shaped Hinge from the attaching way like to open a shell and its shape.

Those shell pads using natural shell are made by artisans at a factory in Nara prefecture in Japan, known as one of the world best places where shell buttons for clothing are crafted. There are three types;
White Lipped Pearl Shell which is used for the highest class shell button treated equal to jewel
and has been used for the face of high class watch since old days,

Black Lipped Pearl Shell which is a Mother Shell of large south sea black pearl and is used for high-class craft products.

Brown Lipped Pearl Shell which has characteristic of rainbow luster born from Mother of Pearl of a large-winged pearl shell in tropical and sub-tropic regions.

This part, which is produced in the manufacturing process blended manufacturing by machine controlled by the latest technology with traditional manufacturing by hand using old tools, has characteristics of deep gloss of natural material, a smooth texture and a smooth touch feeling

Cross Bridge, such a unique shaped part, which you can find both front and back side
crossing in the center, is our original titanium part exclusively designed for 10 eyevan, and we developed the original mold .

Although each of the vertical measurement of bridge of front view is
1.0mm and 0.7mm respectively which is very thin, allocating 4 soldering points of the 2 bridges at front and backside of the rim enabled to secure a strength enough.
Without compromising the two different factors of beautiful appearance and function we have worked to explore the point to be in a good harmony each other to details of design.
Thus, the bridge is completed beautifully, lightly and strongly.

Thisβ-titanium temple, maintaining the round shape from a half-rounded closing block hinge to end-tip, is also one of the original parts, exclusively designed for 10 eyevan.
This wire-shaped part having the 0.9mm thick at the thinnest area has a special feature flexible enough to fit to any kind of face, utilizing the feature of the material of β-titanium. Although this is a minimal in design constructed with thin straight line and slightly curved line, this plays a role to coordinate the balance and connect the end-tip having a sense of strong existence such as 18K or silver 925 with a front constructed with delicate parts.

This part is inspired by the construction of eyewear invented back in the18th century placing the material such as lead at the rear of eyewear as a weight to reduce the burden of weight on a nose when wearing to keep balance. In order to keep balance at front and backward 18K gold end-tip is placed at temple-end which is heavier specific gravity than titanium in the same volume.
Thus, the part is completed having a function needed as a tool while keeping a compact size and a beautiful shape since there is no need to enlarge the end-tip design.
